The Word of God: Understanding The Authority

The Word of God is Christ himself

In the beginning the Word already existed; the Word was with God, and the Word was God. From the very beginning the Word was with God. Through him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without him. John 1:1-3 GNB

The Word became a human being and, full of grace and truth, lived among us. We saw his glory, the glory which he received as the Father’s only Son. John 1:14 GNB

In the past, God spoke to our ancestors many times and in many ways through the prophets, But in these last days he has spoken to us through his Son. He is the one through whom God created the universe, the one whom God has chosen to possess all things at the end. He reflects the brightness of God’s glory and is the exact likeness of God’s own being, sustaining the universe with his powerful word. After achieving forgiveness for human sins, he sat down in heaven at the right-hand side of God, the Supreme Power. Hebrews 1:1-3 GNB

The word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It cuts all the way through, to where soul and spirit meet, to where joints and marrow come together. It judges the desires and thoughts of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 GNB

He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. Revelation 19:13

The Source of the Word of God

So Jesus told them, “My message is not my own; it comes from God who sent me. John 7:16 NLT

The Power of The Word of God

So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls. But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. James 1:21-22 NLT

“Is not My word like a fire?” says the Lord, “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?” Jeremiah 23:29 NKJV

Then I said, “I will not make mention of Him, Nor speak anymore in His name.” But His word was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, And I could not. Jeremiah 20:9 NKJV

“And because I preach this Good News, I am suffering and have been chained like a criminal. But the word of God cannot be chained.”  2 Timothy 2:9 NLT

Therefore thus says the Lord God of hosts: “Because you speak this word, Behold, I will make my words in your mouth fire, And this people wood, And it shall devour them. Jeremiah 5:14 NKJV

“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11 NKJV

The Purpose of the Word of God

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living, so that the person who serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every kind of good deed. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 GNB

But Jesus answered, “We must go on to the other villages round here. I have to preach in them also, because that is why I came.  Mark 1:38 GNB

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Psalms 119:105 NLT

“You are my refuge and my shield; your word is my source of hope.” Psalms 119:114 NLT

“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;” Ephesians 6:17 NKJV

Jesus answered them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor-sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent. Luke 5:31-32 NLT 

The Impact of the Word of God

“And because I preach this Good News, I am suffering and have been chained like a criminal. But the word of God cannot be chained.” 2 Timothy 2:9 NLT

The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the massage and immediately receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word. Matthew 13:20-21 NLT

The Servants of God

Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:7-8 NLT

He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), John 10:35 NKJV

So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. Acts of the Apostles 6:2 NLT

False Prophets Don’t Honor the Word

“We are not like so many others, who handle God’s message as if it were cheap merchandise; but because God has sent us, we speak with sincerity in his presence, as servants of Christ.”  2 Corinthians 2:17 GNB

“But you teach that if a person has something he could use to help his father or mother, but says, ‘This is Corban’ (which means, it belongs to God), he is excused from helping his father or mother. In this way the teaching you pass on to others cancels out the word of God. And there are many other things like this that you do.” Mark 7:11-13 GNB

“But that doesn’t matter. Whether their motives are false or genuine, the massage about Christ is being preached either way, so i rejoice. And i will continue to rejoice.” Philippians 1:18 NLT

The Word of God is the Bread of Life

But Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Human beings cannot live on bread alone, but need every word that God speaks.” Matthew 4:4 GNB

Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Deuteronomy 8:3 NLT

“Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!” Psalm 34:8 NLT

Moses remained there on the mountain with the Lord forty days and forty nights. In all that time he ate no bread and drank no water. And the Lord wrote the terms of the covenant—the Ten Commandments—on the stone tablets. When Moses came down Mount Sinai carrying the two stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant, he wasn’t aware that his face had become radiant because he had spoken to the Lord. Exodus 34:28-29 NLT

“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord God, “That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the Lord. They shall wander from sea to sea, And from north to east; They shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the Lord, But shall not find it.” Amos 8:11-12 NKJV

Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment. 1 Peter 2:2 NLT

I have not departed from his commands, but have treasured his words more than daily food. Job 23:12 NLT

Benefits of Trusting the Word of God

Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.” Luke 11:28 NLT

The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand. Psalms 119:130 NLT

The law of the LORD is perfect; it gives new strength. The commands of the LORD are trustworthy, giving wisdom to those who lack it. Psalms 19:7 GNB

How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. Psalms 119:9 NLT

“Hear, my son, and accept my words, that the years of your life may be many.” Proverbs 4:10 ESV

“Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’” John 7:38 NLT

So Jesus said to those who believed in him, “If you obey my teaching, you are really my disciples; you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 GNB

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. John 15:7 NKJV

For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:11-13 NKJV

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17 NKJV

He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions. Psalms 107:20 NKJV

You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. John 15:3-4 NKJV

Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, so that as long as the sky remains above the earth, you and your children may flourish in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors. Deuteronomy 11:20-21 NLT

Treasure The Word of God

“I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Psalms 119:11 NLT

“My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart,” Proverbs 4:20-21 NLT

Get wisdom; develop good judgment. Don’t forget my words or turn away from them. Proverbs 4:5 NLT

So then, anyone who hears these words of mine and obeys them is like a wise man who built his house on rock. Matthew 7:24 GNB

Christ’s message in all its richness must live in your hearts. Teach and instruct each other with all wisdom. Sing psalms, hymns, and sacred songs; sing to God with thanksgiving in your hearts. Colossians 3:16 GNB

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16 NKJV

“So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.” Deuteronomy 11:18-19 NLT

The Word of God Is The Only Truth

Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection. Proverbs 30:5 NLT

This God — how perfect are his deeds! How dependable his words! He is like a shield for all who seek his protection. Psalms 18:30 GNB

The words of the LORD are true and all his works are dependable. Psalms 33:4 GNB

Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. John 17:17 NLT

Sanctify them by your truth. Your word is truth. John 17:17 NKJV

The promises of the LORD can be trusted; they are as genuine as silver refined seven times in the furnace. Psalms 12:6 GNB

In God, whose word I praise; In God I have put my trust; I shall not fear. What can mere man do to me? Psalms 56:4 AMP

I wait eagerly for the LORD’s help, and in his word I trust. Psalms 130:5 GNB

The Word of God is Eternal

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. Matthew 24:35 GNB

I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. Matthew 5:18 NLT

The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8 NLT

All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal. Psalms 119:160 NIV

You study the Scriptures, because you think that in them you will find eternal life. And these very Scriptures speak about me! John 5:39 GNB

For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God. As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. But the word of the Lord remains forever.” And that word is the Good News that was preached to you. 1 Peter 1:23-25 NLT

The Evidence of the Word

By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, And all their host by the breath of His mouth. Psalms 33:6 AMP

“The seed that fell on a good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted.”  Matthew 13:23 NLT

These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe. They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed. Mark 16:17-18 GNB

Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those Prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God. 2 Peter 1:20-21 NLT

Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. Acts 2:41 NKJV

For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe. I Thessalonians 2:13 NKJV

The Causes of Fruitfulness of the Word

The seeds that fell among thorn bushes stand for those who hear the message; but the worries about this life and the love for riches choke the message, and they don’t bear fruit. Matthew 13:22 GNB

The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the massage about the kingdom and don’t understand it. Then the evil one comes and snatches away the seed that was planted in their hearts. Matthew 13:19 NLT

He who rejects me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. John 12:48 NKJV

Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the words of God. But you don’t listen because you don’t belong to God.” John 8:47 NLT

For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. Hebrews 4:2 NKJV

“Don’t believe me unless I carry out my father’s work. But if I do his work, believe in the evidence of the miraculous works I have done, even if you don’t believe me. Then you will know and understand that the Father is in me, and I am in the Father.” John 10:37-38 NLT
